Most couples decide what they want from their pre-wedding shoot long before they work out when to do it. But timing quietly shapes everything — the light in your photos, whether rain disrupts your plans, and whether your images arrive in time for your invitations and banquet display.
This guide covers the three timing questions that matter: the best time of year, the best time of day, and how far ahead to book. Ready to lock in a date? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll check availability.
How far ahead should you book?
The practical answer for most Singapore couples: 6 to 12 months before the wedding.
That window exists for a reason — it works backwards from what you'll do with the photos:
- Your photos take time to arrive. Our final images are delivered within 2 to 4 weeks.
- Invitations and save-the-dates need to go out well before the wedding.
- Banquet montages and welcome displays need finished images in hand.
- Outfits need sorting: gowns, suits, and any alterations take lead time.
Add those up and a shoot three weeks before the wedding leaves no room for anything. Booking earlier also gives you first pick of dates and the best light slots, which fill up quickly on weekends.
If your timeline is tight: tell us when you book. We'll plan around your invitation and banquet deadlines rather than leaving it to chance.
Best time of day: chase golden hour
If you're shooting outdoors, time of day matters more than season.
Golden hour: the hour or so after sunrise and before sunset — gives the soft, warm, flattering light that makes outdoor portraits glow. It's the most requested slot for a reason, and it books out fastest on weekends.
Midday is the hardest light: harsh, high, and unflattering, with strong shadows on faces. If midday is your only option, a shaded location, indoor venue, or studio session works far better than open sun.
Blue hour: just after sunset — suits urban and skyline shoots, when the sky and city lights balance beautifully.
A practical note for Singapore: because we're near the equator, sunrise and sunset times barely shift across the year, so golden hour is reliably available whenever you shoot.
Best time of year: it's about rain, not seasons
Singapore doesn't have seasons in the usual sense — it's warm and humid year-round. What changes is rainfall.
The northeast monsoon period around December to early March brings the wettest stretch, with more frequent and heavier afternoon downpours. Showers are usually short rather than all-day, but they're more likely to interrupt an outdoor session.
The drier months, broadly February through April and again around June to August, tend to offer more reliable outdoor conditions — though a passing shower is possible in any month.
What this means in practice:
- No month is off-limits — couples shoot outdoors year-round here.
- Shooting in the wetter months? Build in a backup plan: a sheltered location, an indoor or studio alternative, or a flexible reschedule date.
- Humidity affects hair and makeup regardless of month. An early-morning slot is often more comfortable than a late-afternoon one.
- Rain isn't automatically ruinous — overcast skies give soft, even light, and wet streets can look striking in urban shoots.
Putting it together: a sample timeline
Pre-Wedding Photography Timeline
- 10–12 months before the wedding: Decide whether you want a pre-wedding photoshoot, shortlist suitable photographers, and check their availability.
- 8–10 months before: Book your pre-wedding photoshoot and secure your preferred date and time slot.
- 6–8 months before: Finalise your photoshoot locations, outfits, and any gown, suit or accessory rentals and alterations.
- Around 6 months before: Have your pre-wedding photoshoot.
- 2–4 weeks after the shoot: Receive your edited wedding photos.
After receiving your photos: Use them for wedding invitations, save-the-date cards, banquet montages and other wedding materials.
Every couple's timeline differs — adjust around your wedding date and what you need the photos for.
A few practical tips
- Book the date before the details. Lock in your slot first; locations and outfits can be finalised after.
- Ask about a wet-weather plan when you book an outdoor session.
- Consider a weekday if golden-hour weekend slots are gone — locations are quieter too.
- Sort outfits early, especially if you're renting or altering. See our guide on what to wear for your pre-wedding shoot.
